Ebb And Flow
Lang Craigs, Dumbarton March 2019
Ebb and Flow assesses the distribution of water in-land and in the sea - reflecting upon environmental intervention at the shoreline alongside studio making. In harmony with Woodlands Trust, the work resided in the pond and river running through Lang Craigs, Dumbarton. I became interested in discarded/washed up buoys and fenders found at the shore - exploring form and function through slip-casting. At this time I was also researching the dredging of clay - engaging in the visceral of tactile material handling, whilst reflecting upon the mediums relationship to water.
As well as addressing notions of beaconing due to an enhancement of object histories, the work speculates upon a potential relationship between the buoyant ceramic sculptures and the water, river-bed and pond floor.
